What is Tradisional Games ?
Cultural Heritage
The campaign to revive traditional games for children in Malaysia is a significant cultural initiative aimed at countering the pervasive influence of modern technology on youth engagement. Researchers have noted a marked decline in the prevalence of traditional games, which has been largely attributed to the appeal of digital entertainment. This shift not only threatens the continuity of cultural heritage but also diminishes opportunities for children to engage in social play that fosters community values and interpersonal skills. Our initiative aims to preserve Malaysia's diverse cultural heritage by promoting traditional games that have been enjoyed for generations.
Tradisional Games
Traditional games are defined as sporting activities that are deeply rooted in a culture's history and often passed down through generations. These games reflect the unique cultural characteristics of the communities from which they originate, serving as vital expressions of cultural heritage (Luchoro-Parrilla, 2020). Unlike modern sports, which tend to be officially regulated and standardized, traditional games retain their fluidity in rules and practices, thereby allowing for variations that embody local traditions. This adaptability not only enriches the gameplay but also fosters community engagement and identity.
Important to Bring back Tradisional Games
> Traditional games often reflect the history and values of community and reviving them can strengthen cultural identity and community bonds. Hide and seek is one player who closes their eyes and counts while the others hide. The seeker then looks for the hidden players. This game encourages problem-solving and stealth.
> Children can now learn to make decisions and adapt to changing circumstances, which enhances their cognitive abilities. The traditional game of Seven Stone Seremban, in which one person plays with seven stones while the others wait their turn to play, has taught the meaning of patience. Playing traditional games can boost self-esteem and confidence. The joy and fun associated with these games contribute to positive emotional experiences and stress relief.
> We can create a sense of community, encourage active lifestyles, and ensure that priceless tradisions are passed down through the generations by encouraging communities to play these games.- The Campaign: Steps to Bring Back Traditional Games
> Awareness Campaign
The first and most keystep in reviving ancient games is raising awareness, particularly among younger generations who might not be aware of their lengthy history. To promote family engagement, campaigns can use social media, educational institutions, and community centers to disseminate information about the cultural significance and skills related to traditional games.
> Educational Institution
Education can be the starting point for awareness campaigns as it plays a crucial role in fostering pride in cultural heritage by incorporating traditional games into school curricula and hosting seminars that bridge generations. Future generations can benefit from the rules and variations of these games being preserved through the creation of educational materials.> Community Events
We can bring people of all ages together by planning community events like festivals, game days, and competitions, which will foster friendship and education. To enhance the experience and improve ties within the community, these gatherings can also include storytelling, music, and food. We can promote varied participation and reaffirm the cultural relevance of traditional games by making these activities inclusive. Benefit of Tradisional Games
